What is at the heart of a home that reflects God's
design? It's the astounding quality of grace - a way of
living that enables family members to go beyond their
natural abilities and love one another as God does. This
book gives rich, practical guidance on how to create such a
home and family, from establishing a vibrant marriage to
raising joyful and godly children. The authors are parents
of five children, all in their twenties and all happily
married, and the grandparents of two. One of the great
strengths of the book is that every member of the family has
had a share in writing it, has read it and endorsed it. So
it is a genuine family product. Providing historical, scientific and other helpful
material on suicide, Jamison, a Johns Hopkins psychiatry
professor, makes an excellent contribution to public
understanding with this accessible and objective book. There
is, she asserts, a suicide every 17 minutes in this country.
Identifying suicide as an often preventable medical and
social problem, Jamison focuses attention on those under 40
(suicides by those who are older often have different
motivations or causes). Jamison also provides poignant
portraits of those who have committed suicide from the
explorer Meriwether Lewis to a high-achieving Air Force
Academy graduate as well as stories from her own experience.
Historical perspective on how different societies have
viewed suicide gives context, especially on methods and
common locales (in the U.S., San Francisco's Golden Gate
bridge is the most popular spot). Critical of her profession
for not recognizing suicidal tendencies more readily,
Jamison scolds the media and firearms industry as well. The
book effectively brings suicide out of the closet, gives
general readers insight into symptoms and should increase
national awareness of the problem. A collection of first-person accounts by daughters and
sons affected by parental suicide, this is the first work to
present adult children survivors' (defined as eighteen or
above at the time of the parent's death) accounts of their
loss, grief, and resolution following a parent's suicide. In
addition to the first-person narratives, the book includes a
resource section with a national listing of suicide survivor
support groups; an overview of existing research on
survivors of suicide by John L. McIntosh, past president of
the American Association of Suicidology; and an essay on
elderly suicide by David C. Clark, secretary-general,
International Association for Suicide, and editor-in-chief
of Crisis. The book is introduced with a Foreword by Rev.
Charles Rubey, founder and director of Loving Outreach to
Survivors of Suicide. Well-known educator and author Don Griggs has written
this accessible overview of the Bible for adults who have --
or fear they have -- little or no Bible knowledge. In two
volumes (one each for the Old and New Testaments), Griggs
guides us through the Bible and introduces basic tools and
skills for Bible study. In this Old Testament volume, study
session titles include "The Books of the Law," "The
Narrative of Genesis," "From Egypt to Canaan," "From Joshua
to Nehemiah," "The Books of the Prophets," and "The Books of
Wisdom and Writings." Each volume contains not only Bible
content for group members, but also comprehensive study
group guides for leaders. This is an excellent resource in
any adult Christian education setting. Well-known educator and author Don Griggs has written
this accessible overview of the Bible for adults who have --
or fear they have -- little or no Bible knowledge. Griggs
guides us through the New Testament and introduces basic
tools and skills for Bible study. Like the Old Testament
volume, the first half of the book overviews the text while
the second half provides questions for study. There is no richer field for the archaeologist than the
Middle East. Ronald Harker has chosen eight sites which have
provided information on places and events spanning the story
of Jewry and the birth of Christianity: Ur, Babylon and
Nineveh; Jerico; Jerusalem; Masada; caves in limestone
cliffs near Engedi; and the ruins of a monastaryin the
parched rocky wilderness near the Dead Sea. His story spans
some two thousand years, from Abraham's departure frum Ur
towards the Promised Land, to the Great Dispersion of the
Jewish people after their final revolt against Rome in 132
AD under the leadership of the 'Last Prince of Israel;,
Shimon bar Kohba. This book was donated by Donald Laabs. This book surveys a broad spectrum of opinion concerning
the issues of New Testament interpretation and seeks to
avoid a restriction of interest to the currently popular
modes of research or "schools" of interpretation. That is to
say, its purpose is to bring out the treasure of knowledge
"what is new and what is old." This book was donated by Donald Laabs. This story of how the early Christians carried the word
of Jesus throughout the ancient world (and changed it
forever) also depicts the times in which they lived up until
A.D. 600. Lively text and hundreds of color illustrations
and photos of the people, art and artifacts, and historical
sites bring to life the world of early Christianity. See
detailed reconstructions of important events, fascinating
maps, more. This book was donated by Mrs. Pete Darbyshire. Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to
faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago
Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from
schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are
recognized authorities in their fields. Strobel challenges
them with questions like How reliable is the New Testament?
Does evidence exist for Jesus outside the Bible? Is there
any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual
event? Strobel's tough, point-blank questions make this
remarkable book read like a captivating, fast-paced novel.
But it's not fiction. It's a riveting quest for the truth
about history's most compelling figure. What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ?
This Book was donated to the library. Based on years of experience as a pastor and seminary
professor, Leith provides a brief but comprehensive
statement of Christian faith for contemporary Christians. He
draws from the theologians of the ancient church and affirms
the faith of ancient creeds: Apostles', Nicene, and
Athanasian Creeds and the Chalcedonian Definition. This Book was donated to the library. The apocalyptic drama of "those left behind" at the
Rapture continues with The Indwelling: The Beast Takes
Possession! Since the fall of 1995, the first six books in
the planned 12-book series -- Left Behind, Tribulation
Force, Nicolae, Soul Harvest, Apollyon, and Assassins --
have become the fastest-selling works of Christian fiction
ever. The Indwelling finds Rayford, Buck, and Chloe at the
midpoint of the seven-year period of Tribulation and
resolves the cliffhanging finale of Book Six by naming the
assassin of Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia. This Audio Cassette was donated to the
library. In the eighth installment of Jerry B. Jenkins and
Tim LaHaye's apocalyptic drama of "those left behind" at the
Rapture, Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia returns from the dead
with a satanic scheme to establish a reign of terror over
the earth. With the technological means of domination at his
disposal, Carpathia, now worshiped as a god, has instituted
a worldwide mandate that all his subjects receive the mark
of the beast -- a requirement to buy, sell, or trade in the
new global economy. Believers who refuse to take the mark
are forced underground -- or become martyrs. The Tribulation
Force must race against the clock to outwit Carpathia...or
else. This Audio Cassette was donated to the
library. Amidst the glitzy fanfare of a new world regime, control
is unraveling for self-proclaimed god and Global Community
potentate Nicolae Carpathia in Desecration, the ninth
installment in the Left Behind series. It's 25 days into the
Great Tribulation, and the newly resurrected Carpathia
evidences an increasing fondness for gruesome killing. He's
thrown into turmoil when the first two "bowls of wrath" from
the Biblical book Revelation are poured out on the world.
Water turns into blood, and those who are branded with the
mark of loyalty become covered with loathsome sores. When
Carpathia commits the ultimate act of desecration against
the Judeo-Christian community, chaos ensues. Meanwhile, the
Tribulation Force soldiers receive visitations from heavenly
messengers that prod the team to greater acts of courage. As
always, readers are left hanging at the edge of disaster,
which should keep appetites whetted for the promised next
installment. (Review from Amazon.com) This book was donated by Mrs. Pete Darbyshire. It's one month into the Great Tribulation, and a million
people gather in the ancient city of Petra to await the
foretold "Glorious Appearing." The Global Community loses no
time in bombing the city, which is completely engulfed in
flames, guaranteeing certain doom for those assembled unless
a miracle occurs. In other parts of the world, martyrdom
continues for the remnant of believers as Global Community
potentate Nicolae Carpathia's thirst for blood escalates.
There are lots of slick escapes, plenty of intrigue, some
genuinely gory moments, and enough gruesome plagues straight
out of the book of Revelation to keep readers turning the
pages. When the Chicago believers are forced to scatter and
discord breaks out among those gathered at Petra, changes
accelerate for the Tribulation Force and other series
characters, leaving an ample number of loose ends to be
picked up in the next episode. (Review from Amazon.com) This book was donated by Mrs. Pete Darbyshire. This collection offers readers loving insights and wisdom
-- all centering on the prime of life. This book celebrates
the myriad joys of living and the wisdom that comes from
having lived. The stories collected for this series get
better and better -- they're marvelously crafted pieces of
writing with heartwarming themes and many entertaining
twists and turns in the way they unfold. In this volume, the
stories are about preserving dignity during the travails of
reaching one's later years, and especially about finding
meaning and purpose in being generous with others. As
always, the readings are auditory pleasures that are
perfectly paced and nuanced. The generous and sincere
readings by the author/readers are a heartfelt gift to aging
people of all stages. (Review from Amazon.com) This book was donated by Mrs. Pete Darbyshire. "I believe that Dust to Glory is the most important

story bursting with intrigue, drama, and real-life accounts
revealing the nature and character of God, His people, and
His enemies. Only in the Bible does God reveal his plan and
promises to believers. Here you can witness the spectacular
drama of your redemption from the Garden to the
desert to the battlefields to the silence; from the manger

promises, practical lessons, high adventure, and romance. It
is God's instruction for wise and joyful living; His vow to
His Bride; His love letter to you. (Review from Ligonier
Ministries) Each volume contains either 2 or 3 audio cassettes.
